Prolog to a fairytale

The year is 1940. A girl in her teens ascends a mountain in Europe hoping to find a castle that a friend of hers said was haunted. He said that all those who find and enter this castle were said to never come back. The gossip that she had heard around town said that there were spirits in the castle. One old woman said that the spirits, upon entering it, would take over your mind and destroy it was they were done using it. Of course being an open-minded girl, raised by two college professors, she didn't believe any of the stories. She was only going there for one thing. To see the statue.
